A summary of dimmable lights.
Lighting is often used to create the magical ‘ambience’. Without being able to control the light levels in a space, we would soon be frustrated.
Think of all of those times that you have turned on an extra light. Cursed that the kitchen spotlight is pointing in slightly the wrong direction when you’re preparing the dinner. We have situations in every room that will require a high level of light.

Yet, we’ve also encountered the polar opposite. Snuggling up to watch a film, or settling down to read in bed you don’t want harsh lighting. You want soft, diffused light that soothes you, comforts you and doesn’t reflect off the TV and device screens.

Having multiple lights in a room to serve this purpose is an ideal scenario. However, room sizes do not always allow for this! The solution? Dimmable lights.
Dimmable ceiling lights
All ceiling lights are dimmable when teamed with dimmable LED bulbs and a suitable switch.

The challenges that you may face, are using an old dimmer switch which was designed to work with the old fashioned halogen bulb. LED bulbs use so much less power, so the old style switch won’t work. If you simply update your switch, then that should solve the problem.
Integrated LED ceiling lights may not be dimmable. As technology is continually improving, dimmable integrated LED ceiling lights are now available and we expect to see more of these being added to our range of lights.
Dimmable wall lights
These will work in the same way as ceiling lights, so if they take a bulb and are hardwired to a dimmer switch, you’re up and running.

If your wall light is switched, they can generally still be dimmed when wired into the mains. If you leave the switch in the ‘on’ position, you can then use the mains dimmer switch to operate your light.
Did you know, if you choose a wall light with a pull cord switch, that this can be removed when you install it?

Dimmable Floor Lamps
Floor lamps that are dimmable are very new to the market. They will either have a dimmer switch on the lamp itself, or be touch operated.
Dimmable Table Lamps
Most table lamps that are dimmable will be touch lamps. These will generally be a three stage touch lamp which will offer three levels of light, getting gradually brighter with each tap.

A few table lamps come with a rotary dimmer switch.
