Why do I need a double insulated light?

The reason why a light fitting would be double insulated is that it is designed to be fitted where an earth connection isn’t present in your home. If you imagine a Class 1 light that is earthed has an issue and the wire becomes loose and touches the body of the light the danger of the light becoming live is saved by the earth wire taking away the danger and then tripping out the fuse on your circuit board.

If there was no earth wire present and the same issue occurred then the light would become live and a very dangerous situation would occur that could lead to you getting electrocuted.

This may seem scary and daunting but don’t worry it’s super easy to choose the right and safe light for you.

What IP rating do I need for my bathroom?

When looking for lights for your bathroom we suggest looking for IP44 rated minimum as this is the safest option for your bathroom. You will need IP44 up to IP65-rated lighting if you are planning to put your light within a 60cm radius of the water source.
