Lighting technology is constantly evolving and many of us would admit that we’re not massively concerned with semi-conductor light sources and current flow. We are however enjoying the many benefits that this technological advancement offers us.

LEDs are now the mainstream choice for lighting our homes, using considerably less wattage to offer similar or even brighter levels of light output than their predecessors. They are great for our pockets and to salve our eco-consciousness, but what it offers in regard to design is unparalleled in the history of lighting conception.

Similar to losing the constraints of Victorian corsetry, utilising the tiny light emitting diodes has negated the need for the bulky lampholders that have been necessary for lighting designers for over a century.

With a fresh and unhindered view offered to lighting designers, we have seen contemporary lighting designs being offered which instantly add a contemporary drama to interior designs.

Whilst most people accept the technology of LEDs in replaceable light bulbs, we are still observing nervousness surrounding integral LEDs. To offer peace of mind in this regard, LEDs are renowned for being incredibly long lasting and with average use are expected to last between 15 and 25 years. I don’t know about you, but I certainly would want to refresh my lights before they were a quarter of a Century old!
